Welcome ________
Welcome to Jimages Motosport Photography. , this website is designed as
a online portfolio dedicated to my hobby of motor sport photography.
About me
________
My name is James,
although my friends know me as Jim. I have been hooked on Formula One
ever since I was eight. For this I entirely blame my own father, Thanks
Dad! He took me along to the 1991 British Grandprix at Silverstone.
Although we were watching from the wrong part of the circuit the emotive
memory of the home favourite, Nigel Mansell giving his arch rival Ayrton
Senna a lift back to the pits on the sidepod of his Williams Renault
will stay with me forever. We were there following year too,
and witnessed the “Mansell Mania” crowd invasion. I can still hear the
tracks PA commentator yelling at the crowd to get of the track. I’ve
been a complete nut on the sport ever since.
It
should be noted, that if anyone ever wondered how serious I am about f1
and motorsport photography, my early trips to Valencia for the f1 testing
should act as an indicator, and then braving the blizzards at a freezing
cold Silverstone! I'm one of the crazy guys who sticks at it, when
everyone else has had enough and gone home I'll still be there camera
poised come rain, snow or shine.
About my Photography
___________________
I started photographing
Formula One cars as a hobby in February 2003 when my good friend Tom
Stewart persuaded me along to a F1 test. After getting to grips with my
first digital camera, the Fuji finepix s602z I found myself constantly
experimenting with my pictures. By June I felt, I knew how to take a
good picture of a Formula One car. At this time I already had an idea
that I would like to do this more often.
When another friend noted that I had found my new career, I knew there
was no turning back.
As I gained experience,
and improved my techniques the feeling that I wanted to do this
professionally became stronger and stronger. I invested in more camera
equipment in buying a second camera, a Fuji finepix s5000z and a
telephoto lens that I could use with both cameras.
It was
with this bit of kit I managed to introduce myself to Huw Alban by
chance during what has to gone down as one my wettest ever days at
Silverstone in April 2004. We got talking, and ever since then his
friendly advice has been the biggest spur to when I am now. He is also a
great laugh and no mean photographer himself. A link to his homepage
can be found on my homepage.
Soon enough I found out that to
take really good pictures of a Formula One car I would need a good
camera. Cue taking out a large loan and investing in a Cannon EOS 10D
Digital SLR camera. I paired this camera with a Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3
apo lens and later Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 with a 2x TC.
Through my interest in F1
testing I got to know another pair of photographers, Andy Hone (who now
works for xpb.cc) and Chris
Askew, thanks to them and their paddock passes I got some extra
vantages points before achieved my debut accreditation with Pitpass.com.
I have contributed towards
Pitpass.com
with picture galleries of F1 testing at Silverstone and Jerez. I enjoyed the
experience, so I'd like to say a big thank you to the Editor, Chris
Balfe. Contributing towards one of the sports finest online publications
helped me gain a reputation, I made myself known to industry leaders
such as Sutton. And I now pose a recognisable media presence through my
exploits with theRacingLine.net

My intentions and targets
_____________________
I want to become a professional
in motorsport media. And I am prepared to work very hard to get
there. I have learned that the industry is extremely competitive and
that
opportunities can be very few and far between.
But that doesn't mean I
shouldn't pursue it. In this world if you really want something you have
to go out and get it. So that is exactly what I intend to do. I have
made remarkable progress over the past few years, not just in the quality of my
work but also in gaining recognition, access and publishing. And just
like in real motor sports... I want more.
I have made several friends
and been able to source advice
from many people with experience in the media. I now play a lead role in
theRacingLine.net including writing and photography.
I'll get talking with
anybody and practically everybody from fellow photographers, to track
security to the team personnel and drivers.
By developing this
website I hope to show initiative. By persistently updating and
improving this site I hope to achieve exposure and recognition for my
work. Through my efforts I endeavour to make several friends and
contacts in the industry and associated industries.
It is my goal to turn my
motorsport photography into my full time career.
And I do all this in
addition to holding down a day job in the meantime!
